sense that we use them to build a cave that we could explore. This is just one of the many ways that art and play come together during the teaching of a theme. We talked about some of the things that might be found in caves and the children pretended to find a bear. This also lead to us taking a bear hunt walk.
One of the best days that we have had with the Mother Goose Time  Alphabet Island theme is pretending to explore caves! The art activity that we made was the head lamp that cave explorers use. After putting the hat together it only made
The children remembered a great deal of the information they learned about caves and volcanoes from the day before, I believe because of the time that was built in to playing. Instead of just me building the cave. I thought it would be a good idea to have them build the cave themselves. It helped them to open up and ask questions about caves and where they were located and what lived inside of them.

Remembering to not get stuck on just what is in the lesson plan book is something I have to constantly tell myself. They ask so many questions about the world outside of the interesting themes provided during the day and month that a simple theme about caves can turn into something larger and make the experience even better :)
I hope you enjoyed the view into our day as much as I enjoyed being apart of it!
